A Great Way to Make Gratitude Journaling Easy

I always seem to be forgetting to do my personal growth exercises like Gratitude Journaling. (which you can read about here) I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten out of bed because I’ve forgotten yet again. But no more.

I was browsing through this article called The Cheat’s Guide to Happiness and it all seemed pretty run-of-the-mill except for the mention of this one website called ButterBeeHappy.com.

The basic idea of the website is that it’s just a place online that’s designed to help you record 5 different things you’re happy about that day (Personally, I like to change ‘happy’ to ‘grateful for’. The catch for me though was that you have the option of getting them to email you to remind you to fill out your journal either every day, twice a week, or once a week. For me, once a day is perfect, it will be the training wheels I need to make gratitude journaling a part of my routine.

Another great thing about this site is that you can check out other people’s journals and see the five things they’re happy about. It’s fascinating to find out what makes other people happy, and I find looking at other people’s journals really inspirational.

The five things I’m grateful for and/or happy about today:

  1. A delicious lunch, which I just finished eating
  2. The red wine from my dad, which I’m going to open tonight
  3. This fascinating interview I just read, which gave me a ton of ideas and a new book to add to the reading list
  4. The terrible weather, which really makes me appreciate the good weather
  5. All my desires in life, which drive and motivate me even when I don’t really feel like being driven or motivated

Ugh. Sounded like a great idea until I actually saw the site. Hideous!

Another option is to set email reminders (such as with Sandy).

Haha, it could use a little work but I don’t think it’s hideous!

Sandy does look useful too, but I think what I really need is an assistant. Maybe a personal growth intern. ;)

Wow, what a great post. Thanks for talking about BBH on your blog, it’s post like this that keep me working on it ;) What is your username on the site?

Hey John, thanks for stopping by! You really do have a useful little site and it was easy to recommend it.

I also sent you an email and I look forward to your reply.

Stu, if you’re looking for a paid intern assistant, I might be able to help you out with that, being an unemployed hackerette with secretarial skills. But none of this ‘marry me so I can cross that off my list’ stuff. That only works on My Name Is Earl.

Well, I’ll put my skills where my mouth was and email JBP asking if he wants a designer. It looks like a great site; it just needs a little shining-up.

I certainly couldn’t pay you money Fekket, I’m much too poor for that. Would you take compliments instead? Say 10 compliments / hour? And I could even throw in a signing bonus of 50 good thoughts!!
