The Experts Speak Part 2: Favorite Personal Growth Techniques and Life-Hacks

A couple weeks ago I posted the results of a little questionnaire I sent out to some of my fellow life-hack / personal development bloggers. The question I sent them was: “What one technique/mantra/exercise/belief/life-hack/event has had the greatest positive impact on your life-hacking and/or personal growth?”

The responses were great and they continue to be great as they keep trickling in. I’ve been tacking the late answers I got on to the post I made, but now that the post is a few weeks old it’s not getting much attention and some of these new answers I’ve gotten are too good to waste, so I decided to make a part 2. If you want to see the part 1 answers (which were excellent) you can see them all here.

Here are the answers I’ve received since then:

Three simple words: just launch it.

I’m a huge fan of the Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club. In it he presents a powerful concept: given 6 weeks to change your life or lose it, what would you do? Instead of recommending one of my own articles, I’d like to point you towards a friend’s: check out this post from Brett Legree at 6weeks.

The day I gave up on being a perfectionist, let go of the tiny details and just put myself and my business out there was the day my quality of life (and income!) began to improve dramatically. Forget about the small stuff, simplify to the extreme, and find a way to launch your big idea 6 weeks from now.

Here is one mantra that has had the greatest positive impact on my personal growth:

    Follow your heart.

Following your heart is the key to living a fulfilling life. It ensures that you live your own life and not someone else’s.

My one suggestion would be to de-clutter. As far as getting greater peace of mind, de-cluttering is a great first step. Being able to find what you need straightaway, not having all those distractions… it’s a great way of relieving stress and stops a lot of mental energy being wasted. A lot of people are not aware of the negatives of clutter because they have spent much of their lives around it.

Few posts I’ve written on the topics:
    - Clutter 101
    - Clutter 101: How To De-Clutter

  • Glen, from LifeDev.net said:

Personal times each morning. I feel worthless without one of these. Giving myself a chance to collect my thoughts, read, and exercise is absolutely mission-critical for me. I have to make time for myself before I can help others :)

And if you want to see the rest of the answers at part 1 the post is here.

The ‘follow your heart’ one made me think of Disney movies, right up there with ‘LOVE/FRIENDSHIP CONQUERS ALL!’

Decluttering: YES! YES YES YES! I was just going on about this in IRC today. Anyone who wants to lower the chaos in their lives should work on keeping their environment clean and free of clutter.
